92 2010 Bernard Baudry Les Grézeaux Chinon 8/30/14 ($25)
100% CabernetFranc 13% alc
Color: Deep black raspberry. (3.0) Bouquet: Black truffles, spiced veal broth and sweet red pepper complement rich black cherry and raspberry fruit. Rich and pretty. (3.5) Body: Solid middleweight with excellent fruit and acidity. Silky mouthfeel. Very well balanced. (3.0) Flavor: Parallels bouquet step for step. Delicious with red bell pepper nuances coming on. (3.5) Finish: Not quite as expressing as flavor, but still long and interesting. (3.0)
Overall: An elegantly delicious Chinon in a classic style. The raspberry and black cherry fruit are forward and the complex black truffle, spiced veal broth and sweet red pepper nuances are precise and elegant. Beautiful red Loires such as this are reminiscent of a Red Burgundy and an elegant St. Emilion at the same time. That's an exciting combination for me. (16.0)
