90   2006  Duca Carlo Guarini  Piutri  Negroamaro Salento  11/5/10 ($14)

  13.5% alc
Color: Medium deep garnet. (3.0) Bouquet: Dried cherries and forceful clay-like earthiness with tangy black and red licorice. (3.0) Body:Excellent fruit and acidity. Solid middleweight. (3.0) Flavor: Tangy red clay and dried cherries come through with good concentration and a touch of tobacco leaf. (3.0) Finish: Parallels flavor step for step. Long and tasty with black licorice. (3.0)
Overall: Classic Negroamaro. This is what Taurino's Salice (my introduction to fine Negroamaro) used to taste like 15+ years ago. Very distinctive with its tangy clay and black licorice nuances combined with tart, dried cherry fruit. It needed about an hour of air before it opened totally. Probably at its best now and in the next 2-3 years. Great with Southern Italian food or pizza. (15.0)
