Color: Purple black cherry. (3.0) Bouquet: Leather, black licorice and dried black cherries and blackberries. Some bitterness detracts, but intense. (2.5) Body: Light heavyweight with a viscous mouthfeel. Excellent acidity and fruit with some austere tannins. (3.0) Flavor: Tannic and chewy with some bitterness. (2.5) Finish: Parallels flavor. (2.5)
Overall: Shows excellent quality, but rustic with some harsh bitterness intertwined with leather, black licorice, tar and oak flavors. Also has concentrated black fruit. Needs time for the disparate flavors to calm and integrate (hopefully), say 4-5 years. The '07 was significantly more harmonious. (13.5)
