Tasting Note

86        2002 Ravenswood Sonoma County Zin – Old Vine

Color: Medium purple-garnet. (3.0) Bouquet: Ripe, jammy blackberry and boysenberry fruit with a touch of briar and good acidity, although slightly acetic. (2.0) Body: Excellent fruit and acidity with some alcohol and tannin. Again, a bit too much acidity. (2.5) Flavor: Parallels bouquet, but without the acetic edge. Very tasty. (3.0) Finish: Parallels flavor step-for-step, but an alcohol edge adds bitterness. (2.5)
Overall: A very good, drink me now Zin with forward fruit and acidity. Could use a bit more structure to balance out the high acidity and alcohol (The percentage isn’t high (14.5%) for Zin, but you can taste it, which is what counts.) Drink now and in the next year. (13.0)
